Why Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda is a must do adventure activity.

Gorilla Trekking is a very popular activity world over and Rwanda is a destination of choice when it comes to Mountain Gorillas. Few of these primates are still surviving world over and Rwanda has a large proportion of the mountain gorillas in the Volcanoes National Park. The other countries that also play host to the mountain gorillas are Uganda and Congo , both of which boarder the Rwanda on either side. Uganda has approximately 400 mountain Gorillas as compared to the 408 in Rwanda. However what makes Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda more exciting than in other areas is what we are about to explore. Rwanda is a small country with a very difficult past in the name of the 1994 Genocide that saw over 1 million people killed in the process, however 19 years later peace and reconciliation in this land of a thousand hills has left the entire world amazed at the high rate of recovery and development that has boosted the tourism industry. The mountain Gorillas found in Volcanoes National Park have played a very big role in attracting international visitors to Rwanda just to catch a view of these gentle giants. Rwanda has 8 groups of Gorilla Families habituated for Gorilla Trekking and a total of 408 Mountain Gorillas. It's imporatant to note that all the 8 gorillas families are located in one national park that is the Parc Des Volcanas, therefore making it easier for visitors to easily trek the mountain Gorillas. The Volcanoes National Park is located just 2 hrs drive from the Kigali International Airport and the road leading there is paved and you expect a very scenic drive through the undulating hills. Therefore it is very possible to visit the mountain Gorillas in as little as 2 days. The Gorilla safari lodges located near the park head quarters of Kinigi have got very high standards, tastefully designed to suit visitors of all categories. The accommodation in this area range from luxury like the Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Mid-range like the Le Bambou lodge and budget lodges like the Kinigi Guest house. These are all located within 5 minutes driving distance to the park head quarters. Other activities complementing the Gorilla trekking include a hike to the Dian Fossey tombs in the Kariosoke hills, a woman who dedicated her entire life in conserving the mountain Gorillas, the other interesting activity is a visit to the Musanze caves which carry a very rich history in the religious and cultural life of the Rwandese people. A gorilla permit today is costing USD 750 per person to trek the mountain gorillas and one is required to book as early as possible as demand is always too high.
